UNDYING VALUES
The
timbre of the children’s programmes of yesteryear still remain
evergreen, though sadly ‘heard’ by lesser numbers in a backdrop of
dominant visual media. With rapidly accelerating commercialisation of
every sphere, children’s world being no exception, the call for
programmes of the calibre of Lama theeraya, Lama Pitiya, Saraswathi
Mandapaya, Handa Mama, is direly felt.
Whilst harnessing youthful talent and launching numerous prime names
in an array of spheres, creators of such programmes heralded truly a Sri
Lankan identity fusing creativity with strongly upheld values. The
Nation relives the golden era of children’s programmes untarnished by
the forces of the modern consumer world
